On Monday, September 18th, Stanton County High School was excited to hear Mr. Chet Kuplen speak to students and teachers in the Think Before You Post presentation. Mr. Kuplen is the founder of the well-known Sports in Kansas found on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Many of our SCHS students have been showcased on this platform in the past.

The Think Before You Post presentation focused on the power of social media and how with only two clicks of the mouse, any information that you post can be passed to thousands of people. This information will never go away and could impact a student’s future if they are not careful about what they are posting, sharing, and viewing. Research has shown that our teens spend an average of seven hours and 22 minutes on their phones per day. This gives them much screen time to make an error that could affect them for the rest of their lives. 

Mr. Kuplen shared real life experiences from real high school students. These included discussion on distractions, addiction to technology, fraud, ruined reputations, cheating, time consumption, and how to not give too much information. 

It was a great afternoon spent with Chet Kuplen and the students walked away more knowledgeable about the power social media has. Thank you Sports in Kansas for taking time to help educate our young people!
