Valeria Ortega’s Big Day Propels Stanton County Varsity Trojans Past Haskell

Valeria Ortega drove in six runs on three hits to lead Stanton County Varsity Trojans
past Haskell County 22-5 on Thursday. Ortega singled in the fourth scoring two, singled
in the fifth scoring two, and singled in the third scoring one.
Stanton County Varsity Trojans were the first to get on the board in the first when
Kynzi Fehringer singled, scoring one run.
Haskell County captured the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the first when Jasee McVey
singled, scoring one run, and Victoria Lee homered to center field, scoring two runs.
Stanton County Varsity Trojans flipped the game on its head in the top of the third,
scoring eight runs on five hits to take the lead, 9-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a
double by Fehringer that drove in two.
Stanton County Varsity Trojans scored nine runs on 10 hits in the top of the fourth
inning. Kaydence McCleary singled, scoring one run, Ella Krier grounded out, scoring
one run, Ortega singled, scoring two runs, Fehringer tripled, scoring two runs, Sidney
Parks singled, scoring one run, and Krier singled, scoring two runs.
Parks earned the win for Stanton County Varsity Trojans. The starter gave up six hits
and five runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking two. Lee
took the loss for Haskell County. The starter went five innings, surrendering 22 runs (18
earned) on 19 hits, striking out two and walking four.
